Walking therapy or Walk and Talk therapy is fairly new but becoming increasingly popular in the UK. We know exercise, nature and psychotherapy are all good for your mind, body, spirit and emotions– so why not combine them?
Instead of sitting in a therapy room, we walk and we talk outdoors . I walk alongside you, at your pace, at an agreed outdoor space.
Walking therapy may feel less intimidating for some people rather than sitting face to face. Walking therapy can be deeply calming and grounding. Movement can help you become 'unstuck'.
Walking therapy is useful for people in grief, feeling anxious or stressed or low in mood and perhaps feeling stuck. It is also beneficial for chronic pain and illness.
I am located near to:
Burrs Country Park, Bury
Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom
Jumbles Country Park, Bolton
Bury Bolton Canal
West Pennine Moors.
The initial session will be an assessment in the therapy room. This is to ensure that walking therapy is suitable for you, for us to agree on how we might handle any practicalities, emotions, issues ( e.g. the weather!) and maintain boundaries and confidentiality whilst outdoors. We will also agree on a suitable outdoor space.
I work in daylight hours, in all seasons and in all weathers (unless dangerous or hazardous!)
Fees £50 per one hour session
I have completed CPD training with Psychotherapist Dr Ruth Allen.
Ruth explains in this podcast how outdoor counselling works:
